Welcome to a new school year in the music room! Here’s what students have been working on:

• Level 1 (PreSchool & Kindergarten): Students are practicing playing rhythms in percussion instruments by being careful with the instruments, sharing, taking turns, listening to each other, and putting them away when they are done. In addition, students have been singing “Hello Everybody,” “Here Sits a Monkey,” and “Hop Old Squirrel." 
• Level 2 (1st & 2nd Grade): Students have been learning about how musical instruments produce sound by exploring the different instrument families. So far, we have explored woodwind, brass, and string instruments. In addition, 1st Grade has been practicing “Down by the Bay,” and 2nd Grade has been singing “Catch a Falling Star.”

• Level 3 (3rd & 4th Grade): Students have been exploring different musical genres from the western world. So far, we’ve listened to samples of Folk, Country, Jazz, and Hip Hop. In addition, 3rd Grade has been singing “Find Your Light,” and 4th Grade has been singing “When You’re Smiling.”
  
• Level 4 (5th & 6th Grade): Students have been learning about the basic elements of a song: Introduction, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Refrain, and Bridge. Using this knowledge, we will be working towards writing our own songs! In addition, 5th Grade has been singing “What a Wonderful World,” and 6th Grade has been singing “When I’m Gone.”
